Strengthening Families Program

For the past four years, the St. Philip's Family Life Center, Inc. has operated a successful Strengthening Families Program.  It is a training program designed to increase knowledge and demonstrate improved child development strategies for families in the Annapolis community. Parents/guardians and their children, ages 6 to 17, participate in 14 training sessions that include improving parenting skills, children’s social and life skills, and family relationship skills.  Each session is 2.5 to 3 hours beginning with a family dinner.  Childcare is provided for children ages 5 and younger. Transportation is also provided as needed. Follow-up counseling and mentoring sessions are held with parents and children to re-enforce what they learned and to connect them with community resources that will help in the strengthening of families and with academic achievement of children.

Our most recent Strengthening Families Program ended on January 29, 2015.  Nine of the seven families successfully attended and completed the 14-sessions.  All nine families have begun follow-up and case management services.

The Strengthening Families program taught me how to be patient, actively listen, and how to cope with stress in my life. I am thankful to the staff.
